Relay For Life in Oakville
So, the weather wasn’t perfect for our 9th annual Relay For Life event. However, all the fundraising efforts of our participants were, and so far the event has raised just under $450,000 to date!
Thank you to those that joined the fight! Your dedication and commitment in the fight against cancer is the reason we continue to make progress, and the reason why death incident rates continue to decline.
All of you, and thousands more across the country, are the Canadian Cancer Society’s best partners in the fight against cancer.
· You spend your valuable time recruiting team members and cancer survivors
· You work tirelessly to collect pledges; and
· You endure a long, sometimes cold night and do it with smiles on your faces and determination in your heart

We did not get to do all that was planned due to the rain the night of the event. We had a recognition component and a Fight Back Ceremony planned at midnight. In the absence of that I am including a list of our top teams below. Italics indicate combined teams. It has been confirmed by the committee that The Wizard(s) of Oz won for best costume, best team spirit KISS For Ian, and when it comes to tent sites the Shaynanigans did it again, winning for best tent site. Great job everyone! The decorated sites and costumes adds a lot of fun to the event.

The Superdogs were our Platinum team this year not only did they raise $24,634 they also put on a great show! We look forward to seeing the Superdogs back next year! Way to go!

· Thanks to research funded in part by the Canadian Cancer Society, the treatment of cancer and the quality of life during treatment has dramatically improved in the last 20 years.
· Last year, the Canadian Cancer Society invested close to $49 million in cancer research, supporting the best cancer scientists across Canada fighting back against cancer.
· The Canadian Cancer Society has funded more than $1 billion in cancer research in its history.
So thank you, from all of the Survivors who walk so proudly around that track, and thank you from the brother, mother, father, sister, aunt, cousin or friend that has been touched by this terrible disease.
