Financial Assistance Program
Assistance if you need it
The Financial Assistance Program is one of the support services offered by the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division. The program gives support to people in financial need for transportation and accommodation when travelling to and from treatments and appointments at cancer treatment facilities in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
Financial support
The amount of financial support available depends on your:
- household income
- distance from the cancer centre where treatment will be received
- additional medical expenses
- extenuating circumstances
Based on an assessment of means through the application process, you must demonstrate financial need for the program. A situational assessment will be conducted, taking into account factors affecting current financial status, including net income, number of dependents, travel distance, and extenuating circumstances. If you wish, you may apply a portion of your approved assistance to expenses incurred by a caregiver, up to the maximum assistance amount. Caregivers for Northwest Territories cancer patients may also apply for assistance if they do not qualify for other programs.
This program has limited resources and may not cover a person's total costs. However, we make every effort to relieve the financial hardship that may be associated with traveling to attend treatment.
If you are covered by another program
Our program is not available to people who are eligible for or receiving assistance through other organizations or government programs, such as A.I.S.H. If you are eligible for those services, please contact the appropriate provincial or federal government agencies.
How our financial assistance is funded
This program is funded entirely through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society from people who wish to help others during their journey with cancer.

- Send to nearest Canadian Cancer Society office
