Edmonton and area support services

Peer support programs

Peer support programs are designed to put you in touch with someone who has already been through what you are facing. Volunteers are trained to listen, provide emotional support and share practical insights about living with cancer.

Support is available in several forms.



CancerConnection
training


Edmonton, Alberta

CancerConnection is a peer support program of the Canadian Cancer Society that is designed to put you in touch with someone who has already been through what you are facing. Our volunteers are trained to listen, provide emotional support and share practical insights about living with cancer.

In the Edmonton and district area, the following support groups are available.
Please note that some groups do not meet in July or August. For more information, please contact the Canadian Cancer Society at (780) 455-7181.

The breast cancer support group provides emotional support and practical information to people living with breast cancer.

  • Sherwood Park meetings are held the last Thursday of each month starting 7 p.m. at the Strathcona Health Centre, 2 Brower Drive, Community Room 1A.

The prostate cancer support group provides support and information for men with prostate cancer and their families.

  • Edmonton meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month starting 7:30 p.m. at the Cross Cancer Institute, room 2279. This group does continue through the summer months.



Volunteer Driver Program

For more information about transportation assistance in the Edmonton area, please contact your Volunteer Driver Coordinator at (780) 437-8406. To volunteer for the program, please contact Heather Dunn-Kinsman at (780) 437-8418.



For more information about transportation and accommodation subsidy assistance for those living outside the Edmonton area or travelling outside of Edmonton for treatment, please contact Barb Bird at (780) 437-8424.
